Richard Levine presents a scholarship award to one of his selected deserving students at the CVHC Scholarship Awards luncheon at Heritage Palms Country Club June 22nd. John Mealey began the CVHC 34 years ago. At the luncheon 75 students were awarded scholarships and two top students received $2000.00 each toward their educational needs. The scholarship program began in 2002 with many deserving students being awarded. The CVHC is dedicated, along with their JFM Scholarship Fund, to helping low and very low income families improve their living conditions through advocacy, research, construction and operation of housing and community development projects. Democrats of the Desert joined together to hear Assemblyman for the 56th District Eduardo Garcia speak about Valley Democratic issues during its annual summer Ice Cream social. The Assemblyman shared news on the Salton Sea progress, news from his trip to Paris for the recent G_20 summit on Climate Change, the status of the proposed new CSU campus and the work that will need to be done to help farm workers receive pay for overtime. Mecca Comfort Station Offered for Farm and Migrant Workers

Join the Democrats of the Desert in helping supply the new Galilee Center for Migrant workers. Opened late 2015 in downtown Mecca, the fully air-conditioned Comfort Center offers showers and restrooms for men and women and a private family restroom. Migrant workers and families are able to get in and out of the summer heat and winter cold/storms. In addition there is a laundry facility, a reception/waiting and community room used for relaxing, watching T.V. and playing games. Summer Season is upon us and these services are vital to the Farm workers.
