An Important Letter From Congressman Raul Ruiz

Protecting Access to CareStartFragment

Dear Friends, As a physician, I am committed to working with Republicans and Democrats alike to ensure my patients and the American people have access to the high-quality, affordable health care they depend on. I will not allow our country go back to the old, failed policies that left millions of families without coverage, forced seniors to pay more for life-saving medications, and allowed insurance companies to charge more or deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions or disabilities.

In the emergency department, I saw firsthand the difference coverage can make for individuals and their families. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), 3.8 million Californians have gained coverage through Covered California, our state-based health insurance exchange. Since the implementation, seventy-five percent of Californians who were previously uninsured have obtained health insurance coverage. While we can all agree there are ways we can work together to improve health care coverage, I am incredibly concerned that repeal of the ACA without an immediate replacement plan will have real consequences on American families.

So I’d like to hear directly from you. How has the ACA directly impacted you, your family, and your friends? I look forward to hearing from you and working together as we continue to fight to ensure all Americans have access to care. Sincerely, Raul Ruiz, M.D. Member of Congress
