Democrats of the Desert will hold our next general membership meeting on Saturday, November 20th at 2 PM. The meeting will be held via ZOOM. To attend the meeting click on the link below.
The current hot topic of discussion is the every-ten-years redistricting presently under way. This affects every congressional, state senate and assembly district in California. Nothing will have a greater long-term effect on our future than the result of this process. Our speaker will discuss the process of redistricting, what has happened and what remains to happen. Most importantly, the process is not yet over. There are still more decisions to be made and public comments to be received before the final redistricting maps are final.
Our speaker is JUDY RICE. Judy is a native Southern Californian with Southside Chicago roots. Her grandfather was a Ward Captain in Chicago. Voting and politics have always been part of her life. Judy is UCI grad. She spent 32 years as a nurse at Mission Hospital, watching it grow from a community hospital to a Regional Medical Center with trauma II and magnet hospital status. She spent 50 years in Orange County during which time she worked on campaigns and was an ADEM in both Orange County and Riverside County. She is the current President of the Democrats of Hemet-San Jacinto and AD 42 member of the Riverside County Central Committee. Judy has attended virtually every redistricting committee meeting over the past months and is highly informed on the topic.
