Post Election Wrap Up

LIKE ALL OF YOU, MY EMOTIONS HAVE BEEN SWINGING BETWEEN DESPAIR AND RESOLVE SINCE TUESDAY NIGHT - AND I'VE NOT KNOWN WHERE TO LAND. IT SEEMS SHALLOW TO FALL BACK ON A BROADWAY SHOW TUNE, BUT THIS FROM A CHORUS LINE CAPTURES, IN SOME SMALL WAY, WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW.

Kiss today goodbye

And point me toward tomorrow,

We did what we had to do,

Won't forget, can't regret,

What I (we) did for love.

OUR WONDERFUL CONGRESSMAN RUIZ IS THE BRIGHT SPOT!

,

HERE'S WHAT WE DID FOR LOVE OF COUNTRY, OUR CANDIDATES,

AND DEMOCRATIC IDEALS

ALL MEMBERS OF DEMOCRATS OF THE DESERT Your financial support of the Club allowed us to contribute $6,500 to Democratic candidates and spend approximately $1,000 supporting our efforts on Voter Registration and Phone Banking. THE VOTER REGISTRATION TEAM

Eighty-one DOD members spent 197 hours registering 121 new Democrats. Wonderful! The team at Cardenas Market in Cathedral City registered by far the largest number of new Democrats. Some of us worked in locations where we found most of the folks already registered, but the constant contact, visibility, and problem-solving for voters made us a valuable asset to Get Out The Vote efforts. GET OUT THE VOTE PHONE BANKS

At our five D.O.D. sponsored phone banks, we had 199 sign-ins (duplications included as many members worked at three or more phone banks). These volunteers spent 385 hours on the phones, They made over 12,000 phone calls to get Democrats to the polls, or to turn in Vote-by-Mail ballots for Greg, Dr. Ruiz, and Hillary. WE KNOW THAT SO MANY OF YOU SPENT INNUMERABLE HOURS AND ENERGY WORKING PHONE BANKS FOR INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATES AND MAKING PERSONAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS THAT ARE NOT REFLECTED IN THESE NUMBERS. WE ALL KNOW THAT WE DO EVERYTHING FOR THE OUTCOME, NOT FOR THE PERSONAL ACCOLADES. STILL, WE WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT THE WHOLE D.O.D. CLUB/BOARD COULD NOT BE MORE PROUD OF HOW OUR DYNAMIC MEMBERS ARE THE BACKBONE OF SO MANY DEMOCRATIC EFFORTS IN OUR AREA. IT'S WHY THIS CLUB IS DEDICATED TO ACTIVISM! PRIS RICHARDSON, PRESIDENT
