August 2018 - Message from our Club President

Dear Democrats of the Desert members and friends,

Greetings and Welcome to Season Two of Election 2018 !

The Primary election is behind us. The Summer is quickly turning to Fall and our attention is now on the November 6 election. What a great year so far for Democrats of the Desert. Now we must focus like never before!

We all face difficult choices in our lives. You chose to join or be a part of DOD, and on behalf of me and your hard working, all volunteer Board of Directors, we are glad you have chosen DOD.

Now. Do we choose to be bitter, grossly upset, bewildered, and confused about the state of politics today?

Or, do we choose to be more determined, dedicated Democrats now more than ever?

We can use just about every nasty, negative adjective in the dictionary to describe this administration and what is happening daily in DC and around the country. But, we are special Coachella Valley Democrats, and we have made this valley Blue and are working hard to make it Bluer with the incredible help from all of us as proud DOD members.

Board member Dorys Forray, our wonderful treasurer, pointed out at our recent board meeting, that we must "Remember in November". What a great message as we work hard to SUPPORT our candidates, REGISTER voters, and GET OUT THE VOTE !

Board member and President Emeritus Pris Richardson added this recently: we are "high road"

Democrats who will campaign, work hard, help our candidates locally, statewide and nationally with something that the other party definitely lacks: INTEGRITY !

That all said, we blast off this month with a DOD hosted reception Thursday, August 23 from 5 - 6:30 pm for 42nd state assembly district candidate Deni Mazingo at Date Palm Country Club. We are proud to host Deni along with state treasurer candidate Fiona Ma that evening with special drinks, wine and snacks. We ask you to donate a minimum of $25 to hear superb candidate Deni and special guest Fiona.

Then, on Saturday, August 25, our monthly meetings pick up with an incredible Community Fair called "Our Valley's Helping Hands", featuring nearly a dozen community organizations which need our help! Joining representatives from these vital community organizations will be candidate Deni Mazingo and representatives from Joy Silver's campaign and Congressman Ruiz's campaign. We will have popcorn and drinks. We will meet, as always, at Date Palm Country club in the main clubhouse in Cathedral City. This will be our way of assisting our community while -- at the same time -- we begin extremely crucial VOTER registration

and GET OUT THE VOTE campaigns of our own.

Go to desertdemocrats.org for updates on what is planned for September and October, and the rest of 2018. Join in and do YOUR part to participate. Let us know your thoughts atdemocratsofthedesert@gmail.com.

Make your choice NOW to do what you can to feel good about helping our community, helping your club, and helping to make November an election victory month we all will remember forever!

Time is NOW to lend your hands, your voices, your ears and your hearts so we can work together with DIGNITY and INTEGRITY to be even prouder Coachella Valley DOD Democrats as we "Remember in November"!

Best to each and every one of you. See you soon at ALL DOD events, meetings, phone banks, receptions, rallies, and whatever else might come up.

Rob Westwood
