TOP TEN REASONS WE MUST WIN DEMOCRATIC MAJORITIES IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE

The Trump slogan “Make America Great Again” is a call to return our country to a time that no longer exists and wasn’t that great for many Americans. Democrats want to “A Better Deal for America”, inclusive and forward-focused

Here’s the list on how Democrats will get started doing that:

Guns:
Thorough background checks
National “red flag” law (allows citizens to report friends or relatives who have guns and may be a threat to themselves or others. Police can remove all guns for 30 days)
Ban on all assault-style weapons including AR-15
Healthcare:
Restore, refine and advance affordable health care for all Americans
Environment:
Restore and expand environmental protections stripped away by current administration and Congress. At a minimum:
Restore ban on off-shore oil drilling
Reinstate clean water and clean air regulations erased by this administration
Stop leasing public lands (National Parks acreage) for commercial mining and drilling operations
Rejoin the Paris Treaty Accord for the Environment and reinstate our world leadership in this effort
Tax law:
Rewrite recent tax legislation to refocus on true and lasting relief for working classes
Restore federal tax credits for state and local taxes paid
Restore mortgage credits, credits for education spending and credits for adopting children
Education:
Invest in education, not nuclear arms and other unneeded military hardware
Provide federal support for all levels of college and university
Forgive outstanding student debt. Provide interest-free student loans
Immigration:
Pass comprehensive, compassionate immigration reform. Protect DACA!
Minimum Wage:
Pass a federal minimum wage of at least $15/hour
Social Security:
Secure the future of Social Security by raising to at least $200,000 the wage level at which workers stop paying into the fund with incremental increases over time.

TOP TEN ACTIONS TO ELECT DEMOCRATS

Be SURE you are properly registered!
Get your ballot in advance, by mail. Be SURE you are registered to get a Vote by Mail Ballot (if you’ve received them in the past – you’re good to go)
Know the candidates: 1.) Read The Desert Sun articles on local candidates 2.) check www.votesmart.org for comprehensive candidate information including who endorses them, where they get their money, and policy positions. 3) check www.desertdems.org and www.democraticheadqurtersofthedesert.org for candidate and initiative endorsement information.
Sign up to get trained and help register voters. Call Democratic Headquarters at 760-328-9425.
Man phone banks or canvass door-to-door for voter turnout. Again, call Democratic Headquarters at 760-328-9425.
Write letters to the editor at The Desert Sun in support of Democratic ideals, agendas, and candidates. Letters should be 200 words or less, and be civil, preferably with facts to back up opinions and positions.
Inform yourself. Research our local candidates and spread the message to your neighbors, family, and friends.
NEVER SUPPORT A CANDIDATE WHO IS ENDORSED OR FUNDED BY THE NRA! Check them out on www.votesmart.org (non-partisan, non-profit) and spread the word – especially to those you know in other areas of California or in other states.
Choose a couple of Red to Blue candidates, or Democrats in red states and make donations. Inform friends and family on other areas about good candidates.
TALK IT UP! ASK EVERYONE YOU KNOW IF THEY PLAN TO VOTE IN THE JUNE 5 ELECTION. IF THEY ARE UNCERTAIN, GIVE THEM INFORMATION AND SUPPORT. ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP MAKE SURE THEY VOTE. ASK IF THEY WOULD LIKE YOU TO HELP THEM FILL OUT THE VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT – MAIL IT FOR THEM – OR TAKE THEM TO THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY.
